"We do not see nature with our eyes, but with our understandings and our hearts." ~ William Hazlitt
Students, teachers and the community come together to bring the Cabell Outdoor Learning Classroom to life at William L. Cabell Elementary School when Nancy Payne was employed as the Garden Designer and Project Manager for REAL School Gardens. School gardens have been proven to be powerful learning tools which can be utilized by teachers to improve student engagement and academic achievement. According to the Real School Gardens program, the research indicates "experts agree that hands-on outdoor instruction from effective teachers has the power to help all students get more engaged and learn more during classtime." School gardens have the capacity to make children happier and healthier. They provide a space where children can learn and build skills that will last their lifetime.
