"As children observe, reflect, record and share nature's patterns and rhythms, they are participating in a process that promotes scientific and ecological awareness, problem solving, and creativity." ~ Deb Matthews Hensley
Before starting her latest venture, Habitat Landscapes, Nancy Payne designed school gardens for REAL School Gardens. One of the many learning gardens she designed and helped to build is the one at John J. Pershing Elementary School. Nancy and the team of volunteers transformed an empty landscape into a learning garden for the children to explore and learn in. Research shows that children who are allowed to have hands-on outdoor instruction from effective teachers are more engaged and learn more during classtime. The garden at Pershing allows children to experience nature and gives teachers the opportunity to share critical thinking and group-problem solving lessons with children in a manner they will easily absorb and comprehend. Check out this wonderful garden and see what an exciting place it is to learn.
